Summer Sermon Series
Two sermon series are scheduled for summer 2008 at Mars Hill Church. This Sunday, Pastor Mark kicks off the first: Pray Like Jesus. During the month of August, as Pray Like Jesus goes on hiatus, other pastors will spend four weeks preaching the book of Jonah.
Each week, marshillchurch.org will feature a video preview for the upcoming Sunday’s sermon. For those who would like to prepare, read ahead, plan community group discussion, etc., here are some additional details about the summer series…
Pray Like Jesus
A devotional series that focuses on Jesus’ example of what prayer should be like: his teachings, his habits, and his specific prayers recorded in Scripture. Jesus’ prayer life is a glimpse into the life of the Trinity and our model for prayer: our heart being changed through prayer rather than God’s hand being moved.
- Jul 20: Jesus’ Prayer Life
- Jul 27: The Lord’s Prayer (Matt. 6:5–15)
- Aug 3: The Gethsemane Prayer (Matt. 28:36–46)
- Sep 7: Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, part 1 (John 17)
- Sep 14: Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, part 2 (John 17)
Jonah
Jonah is a brief but powerful book that contains relevant themes for a people called to ministry in a city that can be difficult to love—and for the people of that city whom God is calling to repent. The Jonah series will last four weeks and will be preached by campus pastors and other Mars Hill pastors.
BONUS: Parenting Conference
Summer concludes with a two-day conference (9/19–20) led by Ted Tripp, author of Shepherding a Child’s Heart. Dr. Tripp’s teaching has for many years been a tremendous blessing to the people of Mars Hill Church, and a formative source in the development of our ministry philosophy in general.
The conference will be at Mars Hill Ballard and is open to anyone interested in attending. There is an admission fee, but many of our campuses are hosting a simulcast presentation at a reduced price. Registration starts soon.
Check in with the campus websites for more summer events and activities, and stay tuned for more about our Song of Solomon series, coming this fall.
