Who is Nani?
If you look at the right sidebar, you can sort our posts by author. There’s several of us all writing and we all come from different walks with our unifying thread really being our Savior Jesus Christ. And that we’re all women. Candice has been writing for awhile, but if you weren’t here from the start you may not know anything about our writers. Without further ado, here’s Candice:

Some quick history:
- Born in Redmond, Washington to a 36-year-old Korean lady.
- One sister, that is six years older than me. (Hi Unni! I write for the women’s blog!)
- Learned how to play my first song on my violin when I was 4.
- And got really good when I was 5. Just kidding.
- Got chubby when I was 7 from all the McDonalds my dad let me eat in the morning.
- Met God in 1998 and wanted to serve him - moralistically if that’s a word
- Started doing drugs when I was 16 and lost all the McDonalds weight.
- Mom and God saved my life by pulling me out of the drugs.
- Went to Northwest University for 1.5 years
- Met John at school my first year.
- Became aware of what kind of man Jesus is through dating John and his family.
- Married him April 22, 2006, at 19 years old.
Some current events:
I really like singing songs John and I make up. Some of the top ones have been about Fire Roasted Guacamole, catching the bus to work, and “Wells Fargo - The #1 Retail Mortgage Lender.”
We live in Seattle with our dog, Buck. (And a roomie.)
I ride a yellow Ninja 250.
I’m pretty weird, and have been kind of pretending to be normal for a while.
My korean name is Nani. (Pronounced Nah-nee. Not Nae-nee.)
My favorite ice cream flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip.
Oh yeah, and I really like shopping. Like… a lot.
The End. Thank you. Come again.

Reforming the Feminine Content
Nine to meet you Nani. I like peppermint.
Actually, now that I think about it, my favorite ice cream flavor is up for re-evaluation. I had peppermint couple nights ago with fudge. I think its a NEW mint chocolate chip for me.
homemade peppermint (with those awful restaurant swirly red mints crushed up and stirred in) is my favoritest of all time.
my second favorite is CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH icecream! (I ‘invented’ it one summer when I was housesitting for a lady with an icecream maker… a veritable pandora’s box, I tell you, and a much too happy victim).
i like shopping a lot too - we should go sometime! “women’s blog staff shopping trip”
I adore the violin. (Another fantasy down the crapper unless I can convince one of my cabooses its the ultimate.) Smile and wink.
Licorice is to die for. But mint choc chip is close. Umpqua. Thanks for sharing your bio, I always enjoy a window!
Nani, what a beautiful name for such an amazing gal. I’ve loved watching you grow into this lovely woman. Probably just like John, my family fell in love with you at first sight.
Hi, Nani.. I’m Jessica and I’m half Korean, half Vietnamese… Growing up, did you ever struggle with your ethnicity’s role (or lack thereof?) in your identity?
Jessica, I think I struggle with that more specifically now, than when I was younger. I was a camelion when I was younger, and would be able to find community at my korean church, and was sometimes able to find community at school, and didn’t really care or notice that I had to tweak myself a little bit where ever I was.
Now, that I’m married to a wonderful man (white man) I find myself mostly around white people… I mean our church is mostly white, and there are probably about 10 asians. I find myself missing my korean friends, and sometimes think that if they were here, they would understand me better than anyone else.
So what do I do? Go to my korean church again? so I have community I remember, and leave my white church? I thought about it!
i shared this with my small group, and they were able to relate. It’s about finding community, feeling cared for, and creating real honest friendships with other people. I didn’t have that as much at my other church, and I have that now….
Did this answer your questions? haha.
